SEPTEMBER

AWARENESS, PRACTICE, AND PLANNING

This month we are continuing our focusing on instilling a practical and sustainable daily writing practice while becoming aware of what we want and need for us to thrive as whole human beings, not just as writers. This includes becoming aware of your resistance, understanding and prioritizing your bodily rhythms, tracking and journaling about your writing, and checking in with a partner and with the entire group. You will also complete a dissertation plan and timeline that you will revise monthly.

TO DO

01

Write every day (with at least one or two days off a week) for at least 30 minutes and no longer than 4 hours. Optional: continue to track your writing and document your writing practice in the writing log.

Continue to consult and revise your "unschedule". This should also help you plan long-term as you can create an unschedule for your next year if you know of times that you will be less available for writing (job market, holidays, moving, etc).

WRITE DAILY

02

PARTNERS:  Continue checking in weekly or more often or working together. Help one another brainstorm your plan!

SLACK: Everyone must write a very brief update on Slack every Friday. Let us know what you did and how you're feeling, focusing more on the writing process and your overall well-being more than the content of what you did. Please respond to your cohort with messages of support! Tip: put this in your calendar so that you don't forget to do it. It should take no longer than a couple of minutes.

accountability and support

03

At the end of the month before our monthly check in, summarize how your month went in your writing reflections.

Check in over Zoom with entire cohort on Oct. 2nd at 1EST after Job Market meeting (will be rescheduled, date TBD). Update plan and do your reflection before this meeting.

REFLECT

04

Create a dissertation plan and timeline that you update monthly. Instructions inside your planning folder. These need to be done by September 10th or before you meet with your mentor for the first time. Deanna will check in with you about this and make suggestions to help you refine it.
