Our Fall Institute will take a hybrid format, with IUPLR/UIC Mellon staff and fellows attending in-person in Chicago. We will have a virtual alumni panel and mentors will virtually attend the Fall Institute events. Please view the Mellon Institute webpage for details and key information.

Latina/o Studies Association Conference: Placing Justice and Joy in Latinx Studies, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ. Please review our webpage "2024 LSA Conference" for details. We will not have a virtual meeting in April because we are meeting at the conference.
May 1, 2024 at 2:00 pm CST: Speakers' Series Event with Dr. Carlos Rivas and Dr Ana Perry
For this virtual event, Dr. Carlos Rivas (The Ohio State University) and Dr. Ana Perry (Oberlin College) will discuss their experiences as IUPLR/UIC Mellon Fellowship alum and assistant professors who specialize in Latinx art history. The event will include a Q&A session.

This IUPLR/UIC Mellon Program event will feature two guest speakers with doctorates and careers as curators: Dr. Nadiah Fellah Rivera (Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art) and Dr. Andrea Alvarez ( Associate Curator, Buffalo AKG Art Museum) Dr. Fellah is also an alum of our fellowship program.

June 3, 2024 at 11:00 am CST: Speakers' Series Event with Yara Simón and Dr. Iván Pérez-Zayas
For the final event of our speakers' series, Yara Simón and Dr. Iván Pérez-Zayas (whom the fellows met at the welcome reception at Dr. Nena Torres's home) will join us for a conversation on publications.
Their presentations will focus on how to navigate the peer-review and writing processes from both academic publishing and open-access points of view. Simón will share advice on how to submit a pitch to Intervenxions and other media outlets. Dr. Pérez-Zayas offer insights on how to turn the dissertation into a book manuscript, and how to select and develop a working relationship with an Acquisitions Editor. We will also have a Q&A session.
